Recognition. Lust. Absolute power. This is all secret societies are about. If you really think about it, do you think secret societies are really that ‘secretive’? They are basically just a group of people who wants to stand out from the rest of the population by using a ‘different’ approach towards life. However, the police, because of their constant brush with crimes, deem them as ‘secret’ societies and they need to be in hiding. Come to think of it, secret society members have such a ‘bad’ reputation because of their wrong approach at getting attention. They feel that they must rob a bank or kill a person to show the world that they got the courage to do everything and bear the consequences after. Because of this, most people get the impression that all secret societies members are people who are not in their right mind and merely just want to show off their muscles and their fighting ability. However, I do not think so. Everyone wants to feel superior to others at any point of their life; can you name anyone who doesn’t? Don’t you sometimes just feel like showing everyone that you are not just another human walking around on the street and you are special? If you are a shy person, maybe other people will never notice you if you don’t speak up. However, if you ‘speak up’ in the wrong way, then you might give people a very bad impression of yourself.

People who join secret societies may lust for power more than everyone else in this planet may, but don’t forget, they are just a bunch of people who wants to be noticed. Different people have different reasons for wanting people to notice them. For some, they just plainly want attention and want people to see how good-looking or powerful they are, just plain vanity. For others, it may be because they want to get revenge for a particular matter. However, this shows the unstable mind of the persona but the event must really have a deep impact on him that made him so vengeful. The best way to achieve power and attention is to gather, move around in huge groups and talk in loud voices at public places to give themselves that secure feeling that they are the greatest around and no one would dare to touch them. If anyone dared to, they would fight all their hearts and lungs out to show people that they are courageous and expect people to look up to them because of this fact that they are not to be trifled with. This action would only let the public to think that they are uncouth and they are often bad-mouthed because of this.

I have a friend who is an associate of the secret society but he is not a member. Before I continue, I can already guessed what impression you have of my friend. You all must have thought that he is just another young kid who is walking around with gang members trying to act cool and follow whatever they did to get attention right? Well, I can tell you straight that although he hangs around with gang members, he is a caring and considerate boy who cares when someone is hurt or just basically a good friend who lends a listening ear to you when you needed it. He is a caring person and I can vouch for it because both his girlfriend and cousin are my classmates and I’ve known him quite well and went out with him enough times to say that. When we were out with him, he tries hard not to hang out with his gang friends because he know his girlfriend doesn’t like it and he know that he’ll surely get into trouble and he didn’t want his girlfriend to get hurt or angry. After so much on his character, I bet you have a better impression of him and want to know why such a nice guy like him want to hang out with such ‘bad’ people. Actually, we can attribute all these to peer pressure. He studies in a school where young punks are abundant and he have no choice but to mix with such people. However, he is clever and clear-minded enough to decide that he doesn’t need to join gangs to keep his friends with him. He is aware that true friends are friends who like you for who you are and not whether you follow whatever they do or not. So until today, he has sort of ‘stayed clear’ of gangs even though he still keeps in contact with them.

After so much on secret societies, I think you can roughly get my opinions on secret societies. You can guess that I am not the sort who hates gang members. Wait; don’t think that I’m an associate too. I am just the sort of people who firmly believes that everyone, even the worse and beastly criminals in the world have their weak, bad and good points. Thus, I pray that everyone would look at secret societies the way I look at them and give them a chance to prove themselves and show the world that though they might seem rebellious in most people’s eyes, they can be lovable and nice too
